The PER, Recordable raised pavements (according to the Spanish acronym), or technical floors, are a modern and functional paving modality.
Its penetration in the markets is growing due to its great versatility at the time of undertaking changes in the distribution of spaces in buildings for collective use in a functional way and without works, since these alter the scope of work for the users.
In this type of paving, as could not be otherwise, the stone occupies a preferential place, due to the excellent properties of this material and the precision of the transformation machinery that is used today, which allows to comply with the dimensional requirements demandable for this type of pavement.
When designing a PER, each component must be analyzed to make the appropriate decisions in each case.
The components of the system are the following:
- Stone tile: The tiles must comply with the general requirements of the stone and the dimensional requirements of the European product standards. In addition, they must comply with other types of requirements, such as those referring to the limit load, the dynamic impact load of hard bodies and the dynamic impact load of soft bodies.
- Pedestals: They can be made of different materials and types, and they must be selected according to the expected traffic loads, the size of the tile and the height of the plenum (space between the base and the tile). The pedestals must allow at least their adjustment and blocking in height. In addition, the pedestals must withstand, during their useful life, the environmental inclemencies without undergoing alterations, which must be guaranteed by the manufacturer.
- Struts: they may or may not exist, depending on the type of system chosen, the traffic loads, the size of the tile and the height of the plenum. The struts are horizontal components that join two pedestals together, to give greater stability to the system. They must be metallic, made of steel or aluminum alloy, and do not constitute a galvanic torque with the materials in contact.
