Carbon footprint of different construction materials for indoor pavings
In the past materials were natural, coming from the environment, simple and adapted to the climatic conditions of the territory where the building was done. As a result of the demands of society and the Industrial Revolution the building has changed its model, which involvesenergy consumption contributing to emissions into the atmosphere.
The carbon footprint is known as “the totality of greenhouse gases (GHGs) emitted by direct or indirect influence of an individual, organization, event or product”.
To calculate the carbon footprint of different building products arriving to the factory, the flows of matter and energy for the following stages are analyzed:
• Raw material extraction
• Transportation
• Manufacturing
The graph shows that granite tiles used for lining indoor pavings have less impact in the category of global warming, which is what quantifies the kg of equivalent CO2 and is called Carbon Footprint

The result obtained by the granite tile is because in the process of block sawing are used multithreaded machines reducing by half the energy consumption and cutting tools compared to other traditional technologies for traditional sawing.
The fact that many granite materials have local origin and are near the manufacturing industry makes the impacts associated with the transport stage of raw materials to be considerably reduced as well.
