EuroCKP has successfully implemented collective preventive measures for reducing dust deposits on ship decks for granite processing.
The effect of the wind suspended all of the accumulated dust, causing the spread of particles inside the ships and ground installations, with the passage of vehicles causing disruptive dust clouds. This process contributed to increased worker exposure to respirable dust fraction.
The measure consisted of an automated spray having the following characteristics:
• 6 areas for separate spraying
• 1 minute performance time for each sprinkler
• 10 minutes for zone change
• 1 hour full cycle
• 4 cycles of daily spray
• The results obtained after this implementation are:
• The removal of dust accumulated on roofs
• Significant reduction of dust clouds generated by passing vehicles to keep streets damp
• Reducing daily exposure of workers to silica dust to around a 40%
It is important to note that the investment cost is modest in relation to the effectiveness obtained through the action implemented.
